11:20am -12:00pm - Keynote Speech (Collaboration For A Better Cultural Understanding)Governor of Edo State

12:05pm-12:35pm - The Artist Voice – Lakin Ogunbanwo

It is a truism that rather than showing a viewer his/her subject at surface level, an artist aims to express the meaning behind it. This conversation is thus an enquiry into the succession of thoughts, actions and mechanisms that underlie an artists’ creative process. Artists will be sharing insights into the discovery of ideas and visions that resonate, how they incubate and process them and ultimately, gather information, materials, and technologies in order to turn their visions into reality.

12:40pm - 1:25pm -  The Visual Art Eco System- Hannah O’Leary, Folakunle Oshun, Iheanyi Onwuegbucha moderated by Adenrele Sonariwo

The art ecosystem is a summation of diverse personalities and curatorial approaches that are driving innovative structures and models. The panelists will discuss the motivations behind different types of structures alongside the challenges that accompany them. Furthermore, they will scrutinize the different ways that varied models engage the public with contemporary art and how they cope with the evolving needs of a multifaceted and rapidly changing socio-political environment.

Some questions that will be addressed include: what are the different models that artists, curators and art professionals use to foster and disseminate art? Do different regions require different infrastructural solutions when it comes to making art public or is one size appropriate for all? How do different models negotiate between the needs of various parties such as artists, patrons, and the public?

2:35pm - 3:20pm - Panel -  Intra Africa Artistic Collaborations - Dominick Maia- Tanner, Diane Audrey Ngako, Bianca Ama Manu (Ghana) moderated by Jeremiah Ojo

When perceived as a panoramic whole, art across the continent has shifted towards reclaiming it’s rich and diverse heritage and self-directed futures. Although our cultural contexts are somewhat heterogenous, there are nonetheless experiences which are cohesive and relatable, from previously working under the burden of misnomers and archaic stereotypes, to the transcendent nature of most of the continent’s craftsmanship. This provides fertile ground for African artists to assemble and collaborate beyond the confines of culture and geography, finding a wider audience within the continent and Diaspora. Collaborations are more often that not on a regional basis, limiting the scope of experimentation and dialogue. This panel aims to discuss the power of inter-cultural collaboration between African artists and the mechanisms needed to make such associations more frequent.
